A trip back to NUS

My colleague and I were back in NUS 2 weeks ago to attend a course.  Even though I was in my stony mode that day, it brought back a lot of memories.  The forum looks the same but I really dun remember that I need to climb so much stairs back then.  Old liao, climb a few steps (esp with heels) I am half gone. 

AS6 is still there and it looks as busy as usual.  The only thing is that they move the social work department to another block.  We were lost looking for the department.  And it dosen't help that my colleague belongs to another era.  Haha... 

Anyway the 2 of us were super excited with Arts canteen.  I can't help but must take photos for the blacklisters to see.  Yah, machim some mountain turtle.  The most amazing thing is that the food is still so CHEAP!!!  A cup of ice lemon tea for $0.50!!!  My bowl of fishball noodles only cost $2 and it is the large version!!! 

Blacklisters, we find one day go back just to eat the food lah.  Haha.. cheap and good ah :)

Ok you look at the stars area, they even have aircon place in the canteen!!!  So good life!!!

Happenings in April

Enya celebrated her 4th birthday earlier this month. She said that by blowing the no. 4 candle, she will be 5 years old!  Haha... Kids are really amazing these days.  Oh the Nemo cake was chosen by her but sponsor by yours truly :)

Trip to the zoo after her birthday.  Thanks to bro-in-law zoo pass.  And yes, I am still trying very hard to get my Singapore Flyer pass.

Went for buffet dinner at Merchant Cout Hotel to celebrate my aunt's birthday.   Makan was good but a bit expensive.  Lucky my sis got discount.  The kids just love their froggie yi yi ;)

Traits of MSW

Was reading a friend's blog just now, can't help but find her post very entertaining.  Well this dear friend of mine just join the MSW field recently.  Her description of her fellow colleagues really makes me laugh.  And I think she is right with her description. 

What are the kind of traits you need to have in order join the field.

• Hands and legs must move very fast
  Eat, talk, walk, everything must be fast.  If not you may end up dun have time to have lunch or camp in the hospital forever.  According to my friend, she needs to "run" after her fellow colleagues.  Well my dear student is doing that too.   Heehee.. running after me.  And the amazing thing about MSW is that they can run in heels.  My colleagues are good examples.
• Must be thick-skin
  Yes, this is very important.  If not you will never ever survive in this field.  Skin needs to be as thick as the wall.  If not Dr or patient scold or scream at you, you will die.
• Must be able to tahan backlog
  It is impossible to "file away" all cases.   People that are obsessed with "filing away" will not be able to survive long.  Trust me! And of course in our context, must be able to tahan having piles of pink papers and hundreds of episodes in your worklists. If you are stress with your 2 digits of episodes, pls be reminded that we have 3 digits!!! 
• Must be flexible
  I love how my boss put it that day.  We should "humanise" the system cos we are working with people. 
• Willing to endanger your mental health
  Yah, most of us are either werido or psychotics.  I definitely belong to the psy category. Can't help but that is what the job is turning us into. And that is our way of coping.
