Social Worker's Day 2010 - Redefining Passion

CGH team at the celebration this year

Celebrated Social Worker's Day on 16th March this year.  Attended the symposium and dinner with my colleagues.  I must admit that the symposium turn out better than I expect it to be.  At least I am not involve in the planning of the event, if not I am sure it will be another nightmare.

Theme this year is "Redefining Passion".  The focus is finally on us and not so much of educating people about what is social work.  Which I know till now, half the world out there are clueless about it.  Even the band that was playing at the dinner mention about us doing "charity work".  Obviously committee forgot to educate them about what is social work.

Anyway I don't think I am super passionate about my work.  But at least I think my work is interesting and exciting enough for me meet up with people from all walks of life.  There are times that we make friends with people that we are least likely to know .  For example, I am friend with boss of a casket company till he will call me occassionally to ask for business from me (note: business in this context is free business).  And another casket company SMS me wishing me Happy CNY!?!?!  Sometimes I wonder if they know that I don't really want to be in contact with them unless necessary.

Today I add on another person in my "friend list", he is a locksmith.  He charge me discounted rate even though my patient is quite rich (but he don't know lah). These are the nice and kind people that I met.  Of course there are people that are horrid ones too.  They are the ones that drain us till we become psychotic at times.

Despite all these, I think I still enjoy my work.  I still have that little passion in there.  But how to make it continue stay there, is a challenge.  And I really wonder how long it will be before all the passion dies.  So pple should really include MSW into the pay hike scheme.  If not it just means the passion is dying at an accelarated speed.  Yah so pls give me more pay and less work ;P

Looking forward....

I want to see this view in May!

Lets hope that sakura will wait for me and not withered before I reach there (not like the last time).  Yes, I am going Hokkaido. Finally!!!  Book the trip at Natas, got a reasonable deal, but it is still expensive to go Japan.  Got to save for the next 2 mths so that I will not bleed to death after I come back.  Looking forward to the trip, that is my motivation for 2 months of slogging till the next leave.  I will tahan, I will tahan...... =)

We miss you... ;)

Sent a colleague off to US for HMDP on Sat.  She was obviously very unwilling to go.  Everyone was very amused with her facial expression when she left- machim she was going to die.  And because of that, most of us had thought about her over the weekend.  We were concerned if she survived the 18 hrs flight.   And most of us were checking FB and emails to look for signs that she is alive.  Hahaha..

Yah I guess all of us were kind of worried.  But till lunch time today, we did not hear anything from her.  So we concluded that she must be hopeless in setting up her internet access.  Hahaha.... I think we really see her no up lah.

Than at abt 5pm, our boss told the 3 of us that she got an email from her earlier.  And guess what? That email to boss was nothing but complains about the weather and slopes that she need to climb everday.  I can't help it but laugh out loud when boss replied her saying that the climbing would help in her diet program.  But all of us know that before she slim down, her knees will break first lah.

Today is also the first day her 2 roommates are being left alone.  I think they survive the day by turning psychotic and paranoid.  I wonder what they will be like 2 mths later.  And let's also hope that bimbo will return in one piece too.  Wonder if rolling down the slope helps with sliming down? ;P  Anyway bimbo, pls take care and we really miss you... :)
